Brighstone Christmas Tree Festival on the Isle of Wight
The Brighstone Christmas Tree Festival is one of the Isle of Wight’s most popular seasonal events, attracting thousands of visitors each year. Taking place across the villages of Brighstone and Mottistone, the festival showcases more than 150 individually decorated Christmas trees displayed in churches, halls, local businesses and community spaces.
Founded in 1997, the festival has become one of the largest Christmas tree festivals in England, combining creativity, community spirit, and charitable giving. Each year, charities, schools, local businesses, community groups, and individuals design and decorate trees, making this a highlight of the Island’s festive calendar.
A Community Tradition
The festival began with Rev. Tim Eady and a group of Brighstone villagers, later growing under the leadership of Chris Goodman, who helped raise nearly £100,000 for local and national charities before retiring in 2022. Today, the event is organised by Emily Waters and Di Woodhouse, who continue to build on its legacy.
The Brighstone Christmas Tree Festival now attracts more than 5,000 visitors annually, travelling from across the Isle of Wight, the mainland, and overseas.
Supporting Charities
At the heart of the festival is a commitment to fundraising. In 2023, over £6,000 was raised to support Island charities including Mountbatten Hospice, SWAY, Brighstone Primary School, and the IW Prostate Cancer Support Group. Additional collections across festival venues contributed to these totals, helping to make a lasting difference in the community.
